A directional antenna phasing, or matching system, is a critical part of a properly functioning antenna system. While the following quote from KOBG.com is specific to mobile antenna systems, it can apply to all RF antennas:
If your mobile antenna installation doesn’t require any matching (SWR under 16:1), you either need a better antenna, a better mounting scheme, or both!
So when you’re trying to obtain “…superior impedance and pattern bandwidth optimization” to deliver the best sound quality for your listeners, you need to have a durable antenna phasing system or “cabinet” that includes:
- Input and output removable links/J-plugs
- Input current meter with remote output
- Common point resistance and reactance front panel digital counter controls
- Digital counter front panel controls for the power and phase for each tower
- Network access for maintenance via center-mounted, hinged, interlocked front doors and hinged, removable, interlocked rear doors
- High Q silverplated variable inductors
- Fixed and variable capacitors as required
- Input and output transmission line connector/flanges
- Light and dual AC receptacle in each cabinet bay
- Engraved component identification labels
- Two-tone blue paint finish or other paint scheme as required by the customer.
Typical phasing and matching systems can be installed one of many ways, including:
- Aluminum floor-mounted cabinets
- Pre-assembled kit for installing in an existing tuning house
- Floor or wall mounted panel and shelf interconnecting units
